After attending a successful meeting in Brussels, Belgium, organised by the UN-Habitat to upscale the upgrading of informal settlements in Mtwapa, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi headed for Italy for other meetings.
However, upon arrival at the airport in Italy on November 17, his briefcase containing his passport and other important documents was stolen.
"I immediately reported the matter to the airport Police and the Kenyan Embassy in Rome," the governor revealed, saying the airport police reviewed the CCTV footage and indeed confirmed that someone had taken the briefcase and disappeared with it.
In a communique on Monday, November 19, the ODM governor said he successfully got his emergency travel documents back home.
"I’m glad that our embassy in Rome called me today mid morning to confirm that my emergency travel documents that will facilitate my travel back home have already been processed and are now ready."
He said "there is, therefore, no cause for alarm as everything is now fine."
