A quick spot check revealed that only a section of vehicles are in operation, having met the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) requirements.

“Today is very different. I am from Manyatta going towards Tom Mboya Estate. The vehicles are very few and most of them are already full.  I have no otherwise but to walk to my place of work,” said Esther Atieno.

“There are very few town service vehicles in Kisumu town. Tuk tuk operators are the ones operating to and from town. The fare from town to estates such as Nyalenda, Bandani and Riat (airport) remain Sh30 as usual. We have not increased fares,” said Zakayo Were, a tuk tuk operator.

Due to the low number of PSVs on roads, most residents were forced to walk to and from their places of work.

So if you have any plans of the leaving the house today, please do so early, or seek private means of transport for example taxi.

Public transport operators are effective today expected to meet various requirements among them having seat belts for all passengers, drivers and conductors being in uniform with their photos publicly displayed, and not carrying more than the required number of passengers.
