Terming them as betrayers, Cherargei said politicians opposed to Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid have dug their own political graves.

Speaking to a local daily on Wednesday, the vocal Senator said Ruto was the region's political kingpin and those opposing him will surely go down.

"It amounts to political suicide for such legislators to support leaders from other political parties. It will turn tragic for them," said the politician who is Ruto's close ally.

Cherargai was referring to a section of Members of Parliament who have been perceived as Jubilee rebels for refusing to endorse the DP's bid.

Led by Nandi legislator Alfred Keter and his Moiben conterpart Silas Tiren, the leaders argue that Ruto's political ambitions should not override the welfare of Rift Valley farmers.

"We should not talk about 2022 when our people are suffering. People should not see us rebels as people who are being used politically. We will work with whoever is ready to address the welfare of the farming community," Tiren told the Nation on Tuesday.

The duo alongside Marakwet East MP Kangogo Bowen and Emurua Dikir's Johanna Ng'eno are said to be working with Baringo Senator Gideon Moi to wrestle Rift Valley from Moi.

However, Cherargai dismissed their efforts saying Ruto will ultimately succeed in his presidential bid.

"We have drawn up an inclusive plan to consolidate support for the DP and those opposed to his candidature are spoilers,” the Senator said.
