The court heard that Jackie Kerubo allegedly burnt her husband inside their house on December 25, 2018, in protest against his decision to marry a second wife.

Justice Esther Maina heard that the accused is reported to have committed the crime at Nyaronge Village in Masaba North Sub-County.

The charge sheet indicated that the accused committed the act out of anger because the new wife was favoured by her mother-in-law.

However, the accused denied the charges, noting that she never committed the said crime, and only learnt of the incident after being arrested, reports Citizen Digital.

She said that she only learnt of her husband's death from the detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who demanded a statement from her.

The 36-year-old woman also told Justice Maina that the husband disappeared after he stole her tea bonus earnings.

The suspect and the deceased were married for 13 years and have four children.

The case will be heard on November 12, 2019.
