In the hilarious comment, Mr Odinga took a dig at his political adversary Deputy President Dr William Ruto, calling on him to confess and repent before making donations to churches.

In a video shared online, the Cherengany and Wajir legislators are seen laughing as Raila makes the comment.

"If you want to repent your sins properly, when you go to church on Sunday, say the truth. Don't go to church with money in a sack thinking you are helping God, no. Start with repenting your sins. (Ukitaka kutubu sawasawa, ukienda kanisa Jumapili sema ukweli. Apana kwenda kwa kanisa umebeba pesa kwa gunia ati unasaidia Mungu, hapana. Nenda pale, sema ukweli. Anza kwa kutubu dhambi zako alafu ndio upeane sadaka yako)," the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader said.

The issue of donations by politicians to churches has been hotly debated in political circles.

Raila has called on religious leaders to vet the donations made by politicians before accepting them.

On his part, the deputy president has maintained that he will continue making donations to churches.
