Nyamira County Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru has said night discos in the county have been banned to help in curbing prostitution.
Nakoru, while speaking in his office on Friday, said the number of twilight girls is on the rise in the county because even underage girls have been attending discos at night clubs.
"The rate at which young girls are joining prostitution business is on the rise. For this reason, therefore, we have decided to ban night discos as this will help in reducing the number of ladies venturing into the sex trade business," he said.
Nakoru also blamed the night discos for early pregnancies and poor academic performance in the region.
"Many school going children have been taking advantage of night discos at funerals to engage in illicit sex.
"The ban on night discos will ensure school children especially girls are not sneaking out of their houses at night to engaging in sex with old men who ends up impregnating them," he added.
The county boss warned parents and guardians against allowing children to attend discos saying any parent or guardian who will be caught will face the full force of the law.
