A Nairobi Hospital staff has died of the disease and several patients admitted over the same.
Eight employees at the facility’s catering department are reportedly under close watch.
The male worker, whose identity has not been revealed, died on Tuesday following a short illness.
Sources privy to Daily Nation have confirmed that at least 23 cases of the diseases, including the eight members of staff, have since been treated following the outbreak.
The management has also directed the closure of the hospital’s cafeteria as medics try to contain the disease from spreading.
It has also been reported that the staff has been treating cases of cholera on a daily basis before the death occurred, which has caused tension.
“The hospital has been handling cholera cases day in day out but now there is an outbreak and the staff are affected. We are treating it seriously. The investigation is on,” said the source, as quoted by Daily Nation.
The management has, however, said that there is no internal breakout of the disease as reported by several media houses. The team admitted treating several patients but insisted that none involved their members of staff as alleged.
It also remains unclear whether the patient succumbed to the disease or not.
