After many years of waiting Deputy President William Ruto will graduate with Doctors of Philosophy degree on Friday from the University of Nairobi.
In 2016 June, Ruto failed to have his thesis admitted by a team of examiners when he presented it to the School of Biological Sciences.
Ruto’s thesis report is on the impact of human activities on riparian reserves at Saiwa Swamp, Trans Nzoia County.
He wrote then: "“Presenting my Ph.D. progress report to the director of School of Biological Sciences, University of Nairobi, Professor Paul Ndegwa and my supervisor, Professor Jenesio Kinyamario, on the impact of human activities on riparian reserves at Saiwa Swamp, Trans Nzoia County.”
The Deputy President graduated with a degree in Botany and Zoology from the institution in 1990 and a subsequent masters degree in Environmental Science in 2011.
And on Friday, the DP will be among thousands of graduands from Kenya's prestigious institution with a rare honours in academia.
Throughout Africa only few politicians such as Robert Mugabe, late Prof. John Arthur Mills of Ghana ever achieved a PhD while or before clinching leadership.
