In a statement, the first since he was freed from Industrial Area prison after successful bail application, Obado also said he will abide by the conditions set by the court.

"I also thank the court for listening to our request and granting me the bail. This has now given me opportunity to effectively work for the people of Migori as their governor.

"I promise to respect the court and abide by the conditions it set. I urge all our leaders, regardless of their political or ethnic affiliations, to embrace peace and unity so that as a family we steer forward the development agenda of our county," he said.

Mr. Obado, his aides Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero are facing two murder charges over the death of Sharon Otieno and her unborn baby.

The governor also thanked his suppprters, family and legal team for standing with him throughout the 'trial moments'.

Even though he conceded having impregnated Ms. Otieno, Obado however denied executing his former girlfriend in cold blood along with the unborn baby.

Among the conditions he was given include depositing Sh5 million as bail, keeping off Sharon's family and key witnesses, maintaining a distance of 20 kilometres from the boundary of Homa Bay and Migori among others.

Should he break any of the conditions, Lessit ruled, Obado will be remanded until May when the trial starts for Sharon's murder.
