Party Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna castigated the government for doing "too little" to unravel the murder and asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure investigations and prosecutions of suspects responsible for Msando's killing are punished.

He said Uhuru should use his newfound unity with Raila to reach out to Msando's family and reward them by ensuring they get justice.

"We are asking President Kenyatta to now extend the handshake to the family and bring those responsible to book," Sifuna said.

The Secretary-General spoke during the first memorial service in honour of the late Msando at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Embakasi East Constituency on Saturday.

Speaking at the same venue, MPs Babu Owino (Embakasi East) and his Mathare counterpart Anthony Oluoch said ODM would continue supporting and standing with Msando's family as they had promised during his burial 12 months ago.

"Msando was murdered in cold blood because of his strong stand against election manipulation and injustices that have taken centre stage in Kenya's polls. President Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila must take the handshake to the doorsteps of Msando's family by arresting and jailing his killers," Owino said.

When Msando was killed days before August 8, 2017, general election, Uhuru said the nation was deeply shocked and saddened and ordered speedy investigations.

"Chris was a man who gave himself to the service of his country, and its institutions. It is appropriate, then, to let those institutions handle the investigation, the better to bring the doers of this foul deed to justice," the Head of State said in a statement.

The murder, however, has remained a mystery one year later.
