Embakasi North residents have reacted after their MP James Mwangi Gakuya was arrested on Wednesday.
The MP was nabbed by the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) detectives over corruption-related offenses.
In a tweet, the EACC said that the MP will be arraigned in court to answer to corruption charges.
The Jubilee MP is accused of allegedly flouting procurement laws to get business for his companies from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) amounting to Sh 40 Million. The DPP gave consent for his arrest and prosecution.
The residents now want the MP to return the money if the allegations are true.
“He should be forced to return the money if he stole from CDF coffers,” George Mburu, a taxi operator said.
Mburu claimed that they have been finding it hard to get bursaries for their needy children.
"If there is evidence that the MP stole the money then he should be prosecuted and even jailed,” Cecilia Kathini, a city resident said.
Kathini lauded the investigative agencies leading the war on graft saying they are doing a good job.
“We want to see people who have been stealing from us get arrested and jailed,” Siphrosa Mutheu, a grocery seller said.
The fight against corruption has intensified with several top government officials being arrested and arraigned in court in the recent days.
The Jubilee MP will be arraigned before anti-corruption court on Thursday.
