A somber mood engulfed a school in Nakuru after a class six pupil drowned during a swimming lesson.
Samuel Munge, 13, was with his classmates at Roots Academy in Greensted Estate, Nakuru when they went for a swimming lesson at the school’s pool on Wednesday.
Collins Odhiambo, the school's headteacher, said Munge had just joined the school and did not know how to swim.
“I was alerted of the incident by the swimming teacher and I immediately rushed Munge to Fountain Medical Centre but he died while undergoing treatment,” Odhiambo said.
Munge’s father regretted having taken him to the school.
“I had just transferred him to Roots Academy a week ago with hopes that he will improve in Mathematics. It is unfortunate that he died so soon,” he said.
AT the PN Ngari funeral home, Munge’s mother wailed uncontrollably as she asked God to ‘return her child’.
