Ngure says that Mawathe’s election loss negatively taints Kalonzo’s 2022 presidential bid.

The analyst says that Embakasi is considered as Kalonzo’s stronghold and losing a seat is a big blow to him.

“Kalonzo should immediately go to the drawing board and strategize on how he will win Embakasi,  a region that has for years been considered as his political zone,” he said.

Ngure said that Kalonzo will be weakened politically if Mawathe goes on to lose in case of the by-election as ordered by the  Court of Appeal.

He said that Kalonzo has a lot of homework to do as he plans to contest for the top seat in 2022.

“The former Vice President must strategize if he wants to be a serious contender in 2022,” he added.

The court of appeal nullified Mawathe’s victory on grounds that the parliamentary election was not free and fair.

Court of appeal judges Daniel Maringa and Mohamed Warsame ordered for fresh parliamentary election in Embakasi south.

The appeal had been lodged by former ODM MP Irshad Sumra.

Mawathe has since said that he will be moving to the Supreme Court to challenge the court of appeal ruling.
