Deputy President William Ruto's urge to inherit the populous Mt Kenya region seems to be gathering momentum.

Despite President Uhuru Kenyatta's persistent warnings targeting MPs from Central Kenya to stop politicking, the leaders have often showed some signs of defiance.

For instance, on Tuesday in Nyeri, Dr Ruto came out dismissing claims that Uhuru will continue staying in power.

But even more intriguing, Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri has already warned Mt Kenya region against betraying Dr Ruto.

“Even God says that if you break a covenant there will be consequences. Likewise, for the people of Central, you made a covenant and you should be sure not to break it,” CS Kiunjuri said.

Rigathi Gachagua, one of Ruto's lieutenant, has often reminded Uhuru that he's bound to retirement, another indication that Dr Ruto is slowly taking over Mt Kenya.

“We stand with and support the President but in 2022, we have made up our minds and I will personally support Ruto to the very end,” he stated recently.

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo also believes the Tangatanga politics may split the region.

“Why is it that there are so many issues in our region? Why is there no politics in other regions. We should be focusing on the future and use those numbers,” Mr Kabogo said.

Several Mt Kenya MPs are either openly supporting Dr Ruto or in silent, something that could complicate Uhuru's succession in 2022.
