Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has faulted Kenyans linking the looming changes in the country, through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), to members of the political elite.
Speaking on Monday, he urged politicians to lead the way in helping Kenyans understand the BBI report, and stop making it look like a document of or against some people.
He said contrary to what is being given out that BBI is about the three leading politicians; President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, it is not.
Linturi, one of the politicians pushing for the document to be passed through Parliament, said the report seeks to serve Kenyans as a people and is not about any individual person.
"We have a responsibility to give the right information to Kenyan's and to assist them to understand what the BBI is about. The BBI is not about Ruto, Kenyatta or Odinga. It's about the country. Kenya is bigger than the three of them," he said in an interview on AM Live on NTV.
Also, he blamed the ongoing confusion and heating debate on which way; between a referendum or parliament, is the best for the document's approval.
Linturi noted that it would have been better if the BBI taskforce had openly indicated the mode it prefers for the same, to avoid the current battle.
"The BBI should have gone further to draft bills attached to the report to get a way into Parliament," he added.
