The county government of Nakuru has reiterated it's commitment towards empowering women in business through various empowerment policies.
Addressing the media over the weekend during the closure of a women in business conference organized by Barclays Bank in collaboration with marketers, Nakuru County Executive for Agriculture Dr Immaculate Maina, said several policies towards women empowerment are in place, including; the County Enterprise Fund which is in its second reading at the County Assembly.
She said the county has developed an enterprise Bill that will go a long way in ensuring women in business can access funding from the county.
“As a county we are doing all we can to ensure women strive in business with already a Bill in place” she said.
She said Nakuru County has great opportunities in the agribusiness sector, adding that the county government will continue to ensure better collaboration with various stakeholders.
“As a county we continue to work closely with all our producers and ensure business opportunities linkage in areas such as value addition as well as manufacturing so that women of Nakuru can venture into,” said Dr Immaculate.
Here sentiments were echoed by Kenya Association of Manufacturers CEO Phyllis Wakiaga who lauded the women in business conference, stating that it will help come up with solutions for challenges facing women in business.
Wakiaga challenged Nakuru business women to take advantage of value addition in manufacturing, adding that the county has high potential for the same, since it is an agricultural zone.
“The conversation is focusing on how we can take advantage of value addition in manufacturing to boost our production” she said.
