A political analyst has advised Deputy President William Ruto on what he should do if President Uhuru Kenyatta abandons him ahead of the 2022 polls.
Kameme FM analyst Edward Kabuya said in case the Head of State dumps his deputy in the run up to the polls, Ruto should back a presidential candidate who is not a member of the Jubilee Party.
"We know you are the best-preferred candidate to succeed the president at the moment. But who knows? The ruling party might decide to front someone else. In this case, I suppose you should support another candidate outside Jubilee," said the analyst.
However, the DP has noted that President Uhuru will stand by him owing to the close relationship they have enjoyed for over 20 years.
He dismissed a section of Jubilee MPs opposing his 2022 bid, noting that the president would choose him over them.
“These MPs in Kieleweke cannot teach me to respect the President, I have stood beside him since 2002. They have made no contribution to the government. We have been together since our days in KANU. That is over 20 years. Between me and the Kieleweke MPs, who would the President stand with? Of course me,” said Ruto.
Speaking during an interview on Kameme FM on Thursday, Ruto further stated that he was ready to support any candidate should he be defeated in the Jubilee party nominations.
There have been raging debates in the recent past on who should succeed President Uhuru in 2022.
The debate has caused a rift in the Jubilee Party, leading to the formation of team 'Tanga Tanga' which is allied to Ruto and the 'Kieleweke' faction which is opposed to the DP's presidential bid.
