In today’s world, it is not uncommon to witness cases of teenagers being carried away by things that were formerly a preserve for adults. 

There seems to be a very thin line between adults and minors and the restrictions that define the difference between the two.

For instance, unsupervised access to mobile phones and computers and the freedom to use them seems to have no age limit which has resulted to loss of moral fabric. 

The same institutions that were once academic powerhouses, producing respectable professionals are gradually turning into breeding grounds for all sorts of vices. 

Walking the academic odyssey in a boarding school, it was a highly coveted experience but today, it serves as a getaway for achieving notoriety and delinquency.

Evidently, parents and children alike, share the blame as the society continues to thrive in untold disrepute. 

Perhaps it is the same observation that triggered Cabinet Secretary for Education Amina Mohammed to raise the alarm about the number of students visiting social clubs, especially during holidays. 

In several instances, police have raided social joints and homes arresting school-going children engaging in drinking orgies. 

The aftermath of such ills is the high rate of teen pregnancies that the country has witnessed, something that exposes our moral decadence as a society.

Such are the cases that call for concerted efforts to tame the behaviour of children lest the extinction of society’s morals will be sooner than later. 

Since the schools have already closed for the longest holiday in the school calendar coupled with festivities, it is imperative that parents keep an eye on their children. 

However, not only does the responsibility fall on parents alone but every adult with a sense of accountability in safeguarding the future of our children and the custodian of societal morals.
