Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has hit out at Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho over his visit to retired President Daniel Moi on Saturday.
Murkomen, a die-hard supporter of Deputy President William Ruto said it was wrong for Joho to visit Moi and “insult” him thereafter.
According to the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, he advised Joho to show respect to Moi and his son, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi – who he intends to vie alongside for the Presidency in 2022.
He alleged that the Mombasa Governor called Moi and his son "thieves".
"When Joho visited Mzee last weekend he went there for inspiration but when we got out to go for Harambee in Tiaty he insulted the very mzee he had visited. Joho called Mzee Moi and his son (who was major “contractor” in his father’s government) Mwizi,” Murkomen posted on Facebook Monday.
Joho visited Moi at his Kabarak home to get "blessings" ahead of the 2022 debacle that pits him against the DP who is considered to be Rift Valley's political supremo.
He later proceeded to Samburu for a fundraiser.
Joho's visit has sparked unrest in Ruto's camp after DP's failed bid to meet the retired President in May this year which was blamed on wrong timing.
"Unfortunately, this coincided with the time Mzee Moi was undergoing routine physical exercise with his doctors. Mzee Moi agreed to meet him at a convenient time another day in the very near future,” a statement from Moi’s communication office read as quoted by Daily Nation.
However, Ruto's allies blamed Baringo Senator saying he refused to allow the DP meet his father.
