Kilonzo won the hearts of many Kenyans through various proposals.

During his days as the Education Minister, Kilonzo suggested that girls should be allowed to wear short skirts to school.

The lawmaker said it does not make sense for girls to dress like nuns while in school.

“In the last three months that I have been in the Ministry of Education, no single student has asked to wear miniskirts and I wouldn’t allow them, I wouldn’t even accept miniskirts at work place! They are not intended for working or education but our girl child must be empowered,” Kilonzo said.

He urged parents among other stakeholders in the education sector to back him in revolutionizing the educational sector.

“Those parents and manipulative people who have converted my statement into a command on miniskirts should have the courage to meet me in any girls’ school in the country where we can debate that issue and they will be embarrassed,” Kilonzo said.

The move attracted mixed reactions from different stakeholders.

A section of stakeholders argued that the proposal would affect students' performance in schools.
