Migori county ODM Chairman Philip Mackabongo's home in Rongo Sub-county was on Saturday attacked by unknown assailants who also torched two vehicles belonging to him.

The incident was confirmed by Rongo Sub-county Police Commander Peter Kirui, who said that investigations have since been launched into the issue.

He added that the politician and a group of people who responded to his calls managed to put off the fire before it could create more destruction.

"He mobilized people to put off the fire and immediately reported to police the incident. The motive of the incident is yet to be established,” the police boss told Citizen Digital.

Kirui noted that the assailants took off immediately after the politician came out of the house after hearing an explosion, adding that no arrest has been made so far.

"He (Makabongo) was awakened by an explosion outside his house, he went outside and found the two motor vehicles burning," he noted.

The midnight attack saw the two vehicles, a Subaru and a Toyota Sprinter, badly destroyed.
