Police officers in Borabu, Nyamira County on Wednesday morning recovered two stolen cows.

Confirming the incident Nyamira County commissioner Amos Mariba said the cattle rustlers armed with crude weapons stormed Victor Omboye's homestead at 2 am and stole the cows. 

"The cow's owner raised alarm after the cattle rustlers drove away from the cows from the cowshed. Immediately neighbours responded quickly and alerted police officers who launched a search for the cows," said the commissioner. 

Mr Mariba said the cows were found abandoned on the road.

According to the commissioner, the thieves fled for their dear lives after realizing police officers and members of the public were following them. 

"Livestock theft must come to an end no matter what. I want to urge residents who suspect anyone to be part of the gang stealing livestock to report to police for arrests to be made," he added.  

Mr Mariba said the recovered cows were surrendered back to the owner.

The county security boss appealed to residents across the county to be on high alert especially at night to curb are cases of livestock theft.
