Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has on several occasions hinted at the possibility of vying for the top seat in the 2022 general elections.
This is despite the fact that ‘his brother’ Deputy President William Ruto also has an eye on the seat.
DP Ruto has made it clear and it is in public domain that he will be seeking to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta when he completes his two terms.
For Gideon, son of the former president Daniel Moi, he has not yet publicly declared that he will go for the seat.
However should he decide to run against DP Ruto, several current MPs in the North Rift are likely to rally behind him.
They include;
Alfred Keter
It is now obvious that Keter is against DP Ruto’s presidency, at least according to his latest sentiments publicly and on social media. The two-time Nandi Hills Member of Parliament has on several occasions hit out at the DP despite being elected on a Jubilee party ticket.
Recently while in Rarieda, the vocal and controversial legislator said he would begin a campaign to sensitize Kenyans against supporting Ruto while last week he posted on his Facebook page that he would not allow a thief to ruin the country.
Silas Tiren
The Moiben Member of Parliament has of late being seen as leaning towards Senator Moi’s camp. His grudge with the DP emanated from a National Parliament Agriculture Committee leadership row in which he was forced out. Tiren has been a close ally of Keter and it is likely that he would also support Senator Moi for the presidency. In fact, the MP was the only one from the Jubilee party who accompanied opposition chief Raila Odinga during his visit to retired president Daniel Moi at Kabarack, Nakuru.
Joshua Kutuny
The youthful MP is said to have fallen out with DP Ruto in 2013 after he lost the Cherangany parliamentary seat to athlete Wesley Korir. He, however, won back the seat in 2017. Word has it that the deputy president sidelined Kutuny and was only rescued by President Uhuru Kenyatta who appointed him as his political advisor. Keenly looking at the way Kutuny addresses issues on the Rift Valley politics, it is likely that he would support Senator Moi should he decide to be on the ballot.
Bowen Kangogo
He was branded as a rebel in Jubilee party together with Alfred Keter and Silas Tiren. The Marakwet East MP who recently survived an election petition has not been vocal about the 2022 politics but his closeness with Keter and Tiren is likely to influence his decision on who to support between DP Ruto and Moi.
The question of whether the four legislators would go against DP Ruto and win an elective position in his backyard is a matter of wait and see.
