Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has said he will not shelve his 2022 presidential bid in favor of anyone.
Mutua said he is determined and focused on winning the presidency in 2022.
The governor said he has what it takes to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta during the next polls.
He made the remark during a live interview on Milele FM on Thursday.
Mutua said claims that he will step down or agree to be anyone's running mate are meant to confuse his supporters.
"My eyes are fixed on 2022 and I will not let down my supporters by agreeing to quit the race or be anyone's running mate," Mutua said.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader said he is assembling his political machinery in readiness for the top seat in 2022.
Mutua maintained that he will not step down for anyone including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
"I have heard some of my friends asking me to shelve my bid in favor of certain people and want to tell them that it will not happen, I will and must be on the ballot in 2022," Mutua added.
Mutua said though he respects the Wiper leader, there will be no deal when it comes to 2022.
He exuded confidence that Kenyans will endorse his presidential bid since they have faith in him.
Mutua, however, said he will reach out to other leaders and parties who are ready and willing to back his presidential bid.
On Tuesday, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu asked Governor Mutua to consider stepping down for Kalonzo in 2022.
Ngilu said Kalonzo is a senior Kamba leader, adding that the community has already blessed his 2022 ambition.
Both Kalonzo and Mutua have declared their interests in the 2022 presidential election.
