Residents of Bogitaa village are mourning the death of a man who hanged himself after his longtime girlfriend dumped him.
The incident happened on the wee hours of Sunday morning.
Locals said the deceased, Opore Matundura, threatened to take his own life after his girlfriend, Monica Bochere, dumped him for another man.
“Opore was dumped by Bochere under unclear circumstances. Bochere has since gotten another man. Opore went to their home, picked a rope which he used to hang himself outside their homestead,” said Abel Birundu.
Area Chief, Mr Mamwacha, confirmed the incident and said Opore’s lifeless body was discovered by his young brother on Sunday morning.
“Opore didn’t sleep in his room on Saturday night after he enjoyed supper with family members. The family launched a search the whole night and didn’t find him only to be found hanging on a tree on Sunday morning,” he said.
He warned youths in relationships against committing suicide whenever they disagree.
The administrator called on members of the clergy to intervene with prayers and ensure young people don’t take their own lives under unclear circumstances.
