Kesses Member of Parliament Dr Swarup Mishra ‘Kiprop’ has promised residents that he will honour his pledge of donating television sets to each family across the constituency.
The MP will see 15,000 TV sets donated to the homesteads.
Mishra made the promise to locals during the campaigns as he is committed to it.
In a post made on November 5 on his official Facebook page, the Muhindi, as locals fondly call him, said the move aims at enhancing information coverage across the constituency.
“15,000 televisions are coming soon to my great people of Kesses constituency in line with my pre-election pledges. This is aimed at widening the information coverage across our constituency and beyond. Whatever we promised, we shall fulfil by the grace of God,” he said.
The assurance that he will honour the campaign promise has left residents upbeat with his post being shared hundred of times on local Facebook groups.
The MP is a known philanthropist and has become a darling of Kalenjins who nicknamed him Kiprop arap Chelule.
“Kiprop means born during the rain while Chelule means from outside, but now fully assimilated,” he once told reporters during an interview.
He has in the past donated cows in Kesses to every homestead that did not have a cow.
Critics, however, question why he will use millions on TV sets instead of pumping the money to income generating projects that can empower locals economically.
“According to that post, he put up, the picture shows the TV sets going for Sh11,499, this means he will spend up to Sh150 million. That can be pumped into a massive project for locals to earn something,” Cornelius Kogo said.
