Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has reiterated that hawkers will be moved from the city centre soon.

Sonko said that his government had heightened efforts to construct a new marked centre at ZIwani where the traders would be moved to.

The governor said the market would be a permanent destination for the traders and assured that they would not be moved again from the market. 

"Ongoing construction of Mwariro market in Ziwani/Kariokor Ward in Starehe Constituency. Hawkers will be moved to a permanent location once construction of Mwariro market is complete," he said. 

He said that the market was being constructed by the county government in collaboration with the World Bank. 

"Construction of the market being funded by the World Bank under the Nairobi Metropolitan Services Improvement Project (Namsip) is expected to be complete in early 2019," he added.
