Migori Governor Okoth Obado has gone into history books to become Kenya's first Governor to be detained at a remand facility.
Obado is expected to spend 12 days at the Industrial Area prison awaiting the hearing of his bail application on October 8 following accusations levelled against him over the death of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
Before the county chief was remanded on Thursday, he had spent two other nights at the highly secured facility as he waited for High Court's decision on his bail application.
The county chief is the main suspect in the case in which Sharon was brutally murdered and her body dumped at Kodera Forest.
He has acknowledged that indeed Sharon was his girlfriend and DNA tests have also proved the pregnancy Sharon carried at the time of her death was his.
Although there are governors who have been arrested in the past due to corruption and abuse of office claims, Obado's case is different as the other county chiefs are only locked up in police cells.
At the Industrial Area prison where Obdao has been remanded, all types of criminals from the city who are battling court cases are found here.
