The family of former Garissa Finance Minister Idriss Mukhtar has once again raised dissatisfaction in the manner in which investigations into his attempted murder is being carried out.
In an interview with Daily Nation, the family claims that people who attempted to kill Mukhtar are still walking free.
“We are very disappointed by the way investigators are conducting the case,” Mukhtar’s relative told the Daily Nation on Monday.
The family has accused the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) of allegedly slowing down the case.
Mukhtar’s kin say that they will demand justice no matter how long it takes.
In October last year, DPP Noordin Haji denied slowing down the case.
The DPP said that investigations into the attempted murder are yet to be completed.
Haji indicated that once the probe is complete all suspects will be arrested and arraigned in court.
Mukhtar survived an attempted assassination on August 18, 2018, in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa area when he was sprayed with bullets.
A suspect who confessed to having been directed to kill the former CEC and his lawyer Charles Kanjama died in police cells.
Two other suspects Adan Hussein and Juliet Njoki are facing attempted murder charges at the Milimani Law Courts.
Mukhtar has a bullet lodged in his head and doctors say that it is too risky removing it.
