The meetings were scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 23, in Machakos, and Kitui before the new revelation.

The team was tasked with implementing the ‘agreement’ between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chief Raila Odinga.

The team, under the chairmanship of Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji and  University of Nairobi don Adams Oloo, said that it was going to consult different stakeholders before the meetings take place. The change in dates does not affect other meetings in different parts of the nation.

The team will hold meetings in Meru on October 30 before heading to Isiolo County.

Haji and Oloo have been given the task to ensure the building of bridges following the long electioneering period that saw President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto’s win nullified by the Supreme Court.

The nullification of the outcome came after Raila, who was contesting for his fourth time, sought court intervention citing massive illegalities and irregularities.

The opposition leader, who has since vowed to work with President Kenyatta, however, refused to take part in the rerun following the IEBC’s refusal to adopt his irreducible minimums.

In March, however, Raila decided to make a surprising U-turn and agreed to back President Uhuru Kenyatta's government. The reunion of the two leaders has continued to cause jitters among the opposition and ruling parties.
