The Interior Ministry has refuted allegations that the grave of freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi has been found at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison.
Through a tweet on Saturday afternoon, the ministry said such allegation over the grave of the Kenyan hero are false.
The ministry also added that such like information can only be availed to Kenyans through the right channel, and that is, through the Interior ministry Communication channel
"Our attention has been drawn to news on some platforms that the grave of our freedom fighter Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi has been found at Kamiti Prison. Please note these claims are FALSE and MISLEADING," the Interior Ministry tweeted.
On Friday, reports emerged which claimed that the grave site where the celebrated freedom fighter had been buried had been found.
Dedan Kimathi Foundation's CEO Evelyn Wanjugu Kimath alleged that they had located the grave and were looking up on the government to grant them permission so that the hero is given a decent send off.
“This development is not just great news for the Dedan Kimathi family but also the larger freedom struggle heroes fraternity.
“We now remain fingers crossed as we wait for Chief Justice David Maraga to allow for the excavation and exhumation of the Kimathi’s remains for a decent burial,” CEO Evelyn Wanjugu Kimathi said as quoted by The Standard.
Kenyans had earlier received the news with mixed reactions, only for the allegations to turn out to be fake.
