Ruto and team have since questioned Kinoti's involvement in the purge on corruption, saying that he doesn't have the powers to probe matters of graft.

But speaking at the Parliament on Tuesday, the AG said that the objections are as a result of knowledge, insisting that the DCI is well within the law to investigate graft issues.

"It's a provision of National Police Service Act, section 35, that DCI undertakes investigations on serious crimes, including money laundering. It also detects and prevents crime. There is, therefore, a misunderstanding because of inadequate knowledge on the law,” he was quoted by the Nation.

The remarks were echoed by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak before the National Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.

He said that corruption falls under the wider economic crimes bracket, which lands under the docket of Kinoti.

"Economic crime is part of crime which DCI is mandated to investigate," Mbarak said.

Ruto's allies who have claimed that the ongoing investigations are biased are pushing that matters or corruption be left specifically to the EACC.
