Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has come out stating that development in Central Kenya is rife, contrary to notions that President Uhuru Kenyatta has forgotten the region in terms of development.

“Work is happening even in Central,” he told Hivisasa when contacted on Friday.

While addressing Thika residents on New Year Eve at Thika Stadium, the fiery Jubilee politician who was among a host of Kiambu leaders including Governor Ferdinand Waititu called on the government to be rational in its distribution of resources.

“We want the President to also commission water projects, roads and electricity when he comes here. We were with him in Kisumu where he commissioned a road project, but when he visits (Kiambu) he only issues certificates to recovering alcoholics," he said.

This statement drew anger and support in equal measure. Some leaders have since castigated him for allegedly launching an attack on Uhuru.

However, he says that the issue is not development because work is going on in the Central Kenya region.

He cited that in other counties in Central Kenya, President Uhuru has had invitations to launch mega projects unlike in Kiambu where he was invited to hand certificates to reformed alcoholics.

“The President does not invite himself. How comes (in) Nyeri the President opened a market, an airstrip, a road among others. The problem is local leadership with our Kiambu leaders who invite the President to give certificates to alcoholics thus fueling misconceptions," he offers.

Kiambu Woman Representative who runs a rehabilitation programme through the Mamacare initiative defended alcoholism reforms in Kiambu saying that the president initiated the war against the vice and that it has made a positive impact in the society.
