Last week, Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe openly dismissed Ruto's 2022 chances with Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju insisting that the DP is not the party's automatic candidate.

And Nyeri Town legislator Ngunjiri Wambugu says the president does not owe the DP since he was paid in 2013 besides getting several ministerial positions in government among others.

"WHAT DEBT?‘What debt? Money was paid; positions were given; influence was shared; commitments for protection were made. If we need to explain to others and further, let them continue behaving like they/we forgot’- overheard in some corridors.

Despite the open rebellion from members of his party, Ruto has intensified campaigns in different parts of the country, expressing his optimism that he will take over from Uhuru.

The handshake between Uhuru and Raila Odinga seems to have displaced the DP from the equation, something which manifested itself in Kisumu last month when the three leaders shared platform.

Uhuru's allies have been on DP's neck even as Kikuyu Elders distanced themselves from MOU purportedly signed between Uhuru and Ruto moments to 2013 polls.
