Mwingi police intervened by saving the middle-aged woman from the residents' wrath, the latter beat her mercilessly in Kiomo village.

The irate members of the public descended on the woman after the deceased's body was retrieved from a nearby dam.

The deceased, only identified as Mutuku who died in December 2018 was allegedly murdered and his body dumped in the dam.

The woman, Mwikali Kilonzi, was accused of being involved in the murder.

During the incident, her husband Kilonzi Kikumbi was heard shouting at the crowd to stop hitting the woman unless they wanted to kill her.

"Why can't you call the police to arrest her instead of beating her. You can go ahead and kill her because that seems to be what you're after," he shouted.

The incident was confirmed by Mwingi police boss John Nyamu who said the woman together with her husband were receiving treatment at Mwingi Level 4 Hospital.

"We were tipped off about the incident when it was taking place, officers arrived at the scene and saved the woman and her husband from the claws of the angry residents," Nyamu said.

He said the mob was drown from Kiomo and Kwamunyanzu villages.

Nyamu condemned the incident stating that it's against the law for people to take the law into their own hands.

He said the law should be followed to the latter.

Nyamu said the suspect's guilt is proven in court, not in the hands of mob.
