Locals of Matagaro village in Kenyenya, Kisii County were left in a rude shock after thieves broke into a church and stole sound system.
The incident happened on Friday night.
Locals said the thieves were targeting to steal the money which was collected after a small fund drive that was held at the local church.
"The gang broke into the church at around 11 pm, searched for the money everywhere in vain. After they missed to get money which they thought was kept inside the cupboard in the church, the gang decided to steal sound system including a mixer, 2 speakers and a microphone," said Wilfred Onyonka.
Mr. Onyonka said church members who woke up early on Saturday for morning prayers found the instruments missing and raised alarm.
Area assistant chief Tiberius Mose said investigations have commenced to arrest the thieves.
"It is sad that thieves can steal from the House of God. Those who stole should return the church instruments before a calamity falls in their families," he said.
Mose asked members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with authorities so that the thieves can be arrested to face prosecution.
