Moiben Member of Parliament  Silas Tiren has hit out at some politicians from the North Rift region who have been defending those implicated in corruption because they come from Kalenjin community.

Tiren said that corruption is not a community but an individual affair.

"It's sad that some leaders are defending those involved in corruption in the name of 'our community is being targeted', this should not be the case in this time and age," he said in Eldoret town on Monday.

"If anyone is involved in corruption no matter his/her tribal affiliation, they should face the law since they stole alone and not with the entire community," added the MP who has been branded a rebel within the Jubilee party.

He further said those involved in corruption should carry their own cross and should not use their communities as scapegoats to steal from Kenyans.

Tiren further reiterated that investigations into graft allegations should be scaled up to target more people and warned politicians against interfering with investigations.

This comes after a section of  North Rift leaders led by Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei claimed the fight against corruption was targeting one community in a move aimed at derailing Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
