Naftali Njahi Kinuthia, the man who hacked Ivy Wangeci to death, is said to be in a confused state of mind.
His mother said that Njahi asked his father who killed Wangeci.
“Who killed Ivy? I can’t believe I killed her!” Kinuthia is said to have told his father who visited him in hospital.
Described as shell-shocked, the suspect is reportedly trying to come to terms with the gruesome murder.
The mother said his son is a ‘calm and polite’ boy and they still do not understand what happened.
Details have also emerged that police have sent several tablets found in his car to the government chemist for examination.
“Detectives also confiscated some drugs found in his [Kinuthia’s] car for testing to ascertain what they were and whether he had taken them before attacking Wangechi,” Daily Nation reported.
The murder of the sixth year medical student shocked the country to the core as all manner of conspiracy theories surfaced online.
The family’s description of their son has been corroborated by his workmates at a Nairobi-based betting firm who described him as a hard worker and recluse.
To Ivy’s classmates, Kinuthia is a man who was obsessed with their colleague and could not take rejection.
