However, the burning question is who will replace Cornel Rasanga in Siaya, Zachary Okoth Obado in Migori and Cyprian Awiti in Homabay after their terms come to an end in 2022?

Can the trio be replaced by their deputies? Migori Deputy Governor (DG) Nelson Mahanga is serving his second term under Obado.

With the experience of being a DG for ten years, he stands a high chance of taking Migori forward as a governor. But he will be sure of stiff competition should former Rongo MP Dr Ochillo Ayacko decide to contest for the gubernatorial seat again in 2022.

In Siaya County, deputy governor James Okumbe is still learning the ropes of county leadership after governor Rasanga nominated him to be his running mate last year.

Rasanga’s DG during his first term in office was Wilson Ouma. Should Okumbe decide to vie for the Siaya gubernatorial seat in 2022, he will most probably come up against former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo and Siaya Senator James Orengo.

Serving his second term in office under governor Cyprian Awiti, Homaby DG Hamilton Orata is seen as likely replacement of his current boss.

Whether he will replace him or not depends on his interest and strategy.

Again, succeeding his boss may end up being difficult venture should Awiti’s long term rival Oyugi Magwanga declare interest in the Homabay County gubernatorial seat in 2022.
