Police in Yatta have nabbed a lorry with 560 bags of suspected contraband sugar.
Confirming the incident, Yatta Deputy County Commissioner Edwin Chabari said that the lorry was nabbed at a traffic stop along Thika -Garissa road.
Chabari said that the lorry was packed in 50kg bags of sugar.
"We have laid our hands on a lorry today with 560 bags of suspected contraband sugar which was packed in 50kg bags. The lorry was nabbed at a traffic stop along Thika-Garissa road," said Chabari.
He said that the lorry is being held at Kithimani police station.
He said that investigations and inspection of the sugar have begun to determine whether it's fit for human consumption.
"The lorry is at Kithimani police station and investigations have commenced to determine whether the sugar is fit for human consumption", added Chabari.
He said that security agents are vigilant to ensure residents are fed with what is fit.
In the past three weeks, close to 10,000 bags of suspected contraband sugar have been nabbed in Machakos County in the ongoing crackdown.
