Betting firm Sportpesa has revealed that it collected Sh20 billion in revenue in 2018.

The firm also disclosed that out of the revenue collected Sh9 billion in was gross profit and remitted a tax of Sh6.4 billion. 

In a statement on Standard, the firm dismissed claims of tax evasion. The management insists that he has contributed to the lives of millions of Kenyans as well as foreigners since it was established.

The firm also revealed a number of charity projects it has been sponsoring since it was founded including but not limited to Sh57 million in education, Sh73 million in agriculture, Sh2.8million rally, Sh693 million in football, Sh600 million in rugby, Sh75million in boxing and Sh41 million in community health development.

The betting firm has since assured its costumers that it is working behind the scenes to ensure it resumes operations after the government blocked its pay bill number. Sportpesa also faulted the government following the move while insisting that it had complied with all the rules set by Betting Control and Licensing Board.

"We are tax compliant and we will work with key stakeholders to ensure everything is back to normal,” said the CEO Karauri Ronald moments after the Pay Bill was rendered nonfunctional.
