Firebrand lawyer Miguna Miguna on Monday reproached his lawyer Nelson Havi.
This is after Havi welcomed remarks by President Uhuru Kenyatta that seemed to suggest that Miguna was free to return to Kenya.
While reacting to a statement by Uhuru that he was not opposed to Miguna's return, Havi described the Head of State as a 'law-abiding Kenyan', saying his word on the issue should be final.
"A purposeful interpretation of the assurance on freedom of association and expression by President Uhuru Kenyatta confirms Miguna Miguna will be granted unrestricted re-entry at JKIA. The President is a law abiding Kenyan and anyone flouting the law should not cite his name," the lawyer tweeted.
Miguna, however, wondered why Havi was backing the President when he had allegedly refused to comply with 2018 court orders that allowed him to return to the country.
"Mr. Nelson Havi: You were one of my lawyers who obtained court orders for my release from February 2, 2018 to March 28, 2018. Those Orders were DISOBEYED by Uhuru Kenyatta and his goons tear gassed you and others. Why are you supporting a Merchant of Impunity?" he posed.
In a quick rejoinder, Havi defended his position stating that: "I am not supporting him, Chief. I am acknowledging the fact that he has stated that your re-entry should not be restricted. It is the Government Spokesman, one Oguna who had represented the contrary. I believe Uhuru’s position prevails over the Spokesman’s."
Miguna, who has announced he will return on January 7, 2020, further directed his lawyer to ensure government surrenders his valid Kenyan passport before his arrival.
"Counsel Nelson Havi: A lawyer should never praise a person who continues to violate his client's rights. Demand full compliance with all the court ORDERS. Ensure the UNCONDITIONAL return or issuance of my VALID KENYAN PASSPORT and and RE-ENTRY as conditions precedent," insisted the former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate.
