President Uhuru Kenyatta’s call for the resolution of maritime dispute between the two nations.

Farmajo used the United Nations forum to pour cold water on the talks, terming them an exercise in futility.

Uhuru had earlier on hinted that he is ready to discuss the matter with Farmajo for the sake of peaceful co-existence between the two countries before they move.

Uhuru believed that dialogue between him and Farmajo was the best way to address the matter before the talks collapsed.

“I have always believed and stood my ground that dialogue is the best and amicable way for finding the best and positive solution. This brings us together as opposed to a conflict that pushes away from each other,” Mr Kenyatta said, as quoted by Daily Nation.

The row on the maritime boundary has escalated following the new development.

Farmajo has now said that he is not going to withdraw the case from the court as much as he acknowledges the effort of the Kenyan government to end the row. This was the first time he was speaking about the matter at the UN conference.

“We agreed to restore our good relationships in strengthening diplomatic and political cooperation and live the maritime dispute between the two countries to be resolved by the International Court of Justice."

Farmajo also said that his nation is committed to ensuring its relationship with Kenya bears fruits in the future, adding that he will continue working with us.
