Eastern Regional Commissioner Wycliffe Ogallo who confirmed the arrest said the suspect identified as Galma Guyo alias Maka Yangu was arrested on Monday.

This is after Sunday’s brutal killing of Dirib Kombo Location chief Bida Godana who was attacked and killed in broad daylight.

Mr Godana was attacked by a group of people who beat him and doused his body in petrol before setting him on fire.

Commissioner Ogallo said the suspect is being held in police custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.

The commissioner also issued a stern warning to area leaders saying they will arrest anyone who was involved in the murder of the chief.

Speaking during the burial of the chief, Mr Ogallo said the suspect will be charged with murder as they seek to arrest other suspects.

“Nobody will be spared if found to have been involved in the crime believed to have been politically instigated. The chief is the personal representative of the president. Anybody who takes the life of a chief pokes the president’s eye, so the consequences will be immeasurable,” said the commissioner.

Mr Ogallo assured the residents and chiefs that enough security will be provided.

The chief was attacked during the burial of one of the two Kenya Police Reservist officers who were killed in a bandit attack on Saturday.
