Reports on Citizen Digital indicate that Kiambu Senior Principal Magistrate Teresia Nyongena on Thursday allowed the DPP’s application to review the manslaughter charge against the lawyer.

The the case will be mentioned on May 10 for directions.

The move by the DPP comes a day after the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) George Kinoti interdicted two senior detectives, who had been assigned to probe the case.

The two were interdicted for allegedly ‘covering up’ investigation. Kinoti claimed that the DCI officers probing the case never briefed or consulted him.

According to Kinoti, he and the DPP only learned about the manslaughter charge in the media.

“This is one of the cases I was never briefed at all by my officers. I only heard of the manslaughter charge from the media. Even the DPP is horrified,” Kinoti told the Daily Nation on Wednesday.

Kinoti said an inquiry against the two officers, and two senior prosecutors has been launched, adding that they could be charged for conspiring to defeat justice.

Lawyer Nyakundi pleaded not guilty to a manslaughter charge two weeks ago, and was released on Sh1 million bond with a surety of similar amount or an alternative cash bail of Sh300, 000.

He is accused of shooting and killing his 29-year-old son, Joseph Bogonko in March.

Nyakundi’s wife has been listed as a witness in the case.
