Mandera Governor Ali Roba has vowed to oppose proposals to reduce the number of counties.
The Jubilee governor warns that reducing counties will be catastrophic especially on equitable development.
Speaking at Granada hotel in Mandera Town during a briefing with the Building Bridges Taskforce on Wednesday, Governor Roba asked Kenyans to reject the proposal.
He said that Kenyans voted for the 2022 constitution because of devolution.
"We are not going to agree to the proposal that seeks to reduce the number of counties," he said.
The Mandera county boss observed that devolution has transformed the lives of Kenyans.
He said those pushing to deny Kenyans the benefits of devolution are enemies of development.
The governor asked politicians across the divide to put the interests of Kenyans first before calling for a constitutional referendum.
Roba insists that referendum is not a priority.
The push for a referendum continues to gain momentum as majority politicians across the spectrum support it.
