Revamping of the ODM party in the increasingly unstable Migori, empowering of grassroot leaders and proper coordination dominated Raila Odinga's meeting with ODM leaders from Migori, it has been established.
On his Twitter, Raila hinted of having listened and recorded problems facing the South Nyanza County, a month after the party almost lost senatorial by-election.
"Met a delegation of leaders from Migori County led by Senator Ochilo Ayacko at Capitol Hill Sq who briefed me about issues in their County."https://twitter.com/RailaOdinga/status/1062320071165526017?s=19.
But a source who spoke in confidence said the ODM leader was worried of encroachment by Migori Governor Okoth Obado and Deputy President William Ruto to his traditional stronghold.
Further, he says, Raila asked the ODM loyalists from the county to work together to form a formidable force ahead of 2022 polls.
"He took leaders through the party's dwindling fortunes which seems to be of big concern. They agreed to dispatch resources to the grassroots and thwart the encroachment by Ruto.
"The leaders were also asked to do joint social functions in the region to dispel brewing rebellion. The youths will be invited for a meeting with Raila to cool the situation," he said.
Last week, Deputy President William Ruto was enthusiastically received in Migori twice and traversed with embattled governor Okoth Obado, who is keen to topple Raila's dominance.
In October, Senator Ochillo Ayacko almost lost to Eddy Oketch, a youthful politician who is believed to have been financed by both Obado and Ruto.
