The September 2016 public rally saw Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho attack Deputy President William Ruto and the entire Jubilee government.

Joho warned Ruto against attacking NASA leader Raila Odinga, saying the two were not agemates and Ruto should rather compete with politicians like him (Joho).

"Mimi mwenyewe nataka kuambia mtu anaitwa William Ruto.. William Ruto Raila hapana size yako. Wewe kama ni mwanaume pambana na sisi ndio size yako," Joho said, sending supporters into "Joho! Joho! Joho!" chants.

He slammed Ruto, following claims that he would take over the county government of Nairobi, saying it would never happen.

"Nilisikia unataka kuchukua serikali ya Nairobi. Mimi nataka kukuambia wewe ni bure kabisa! Serikali ya Nairobi ni serikali ya ODM, na gavana wa Nairobi ni Evans Kidero," he added as Kidero who was alongside him, smiled.

The ODM deputy party leader indicated that the NASA coalition had all plans in store to take over Kenya's leadership in the August 8, 2017, general elections, saying "safari hii tumejipanga."

The leader asked supporters to register as voters so as to be able to vote in the general elections.

Kilifi Woman Representative Aisha Jumwa, Elizabeth Ongoro, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, Jomvu MP Badi Twalib were among leaders who attended the rally.
