Kisii County Woman Representative Janet Ong'era has opined that the Gusii community has what it takes to produce Kenya's next president in the 2022 polls.
Speaking on Friday during the burial of Shem Ondari at Nyamataro area in Kitutu Chache South Constituency, Kisii County, the county MP argued that it is time for Kalenjins and Kikuyus to support other communities.
"Kalenjins and Kikuyus have led in the past regimes. The two communities need to support a leader from other communities most probably the Gusii community to take over the leadership of this country," noted Ong'era.
The MP argued that the Gusii community has been shown the way by the Kikuyus and Kalenjins and thus qualifies to produce a president.
"Kisiis have the numbers to lead this country. I urge politicians from the larger Gusii community to unite and support Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i for the country's top seat," stated the ODM-allied MP.
She further challenged leaders irrespective of their political parties to respect Matiang'i who she said is committed to serving Kenyans.
The vocal legislator warned the 'Tangatanga' faction of the Jubilee Party which has been drumming up support for Deputy President William Ruto's presidential bid against propagating divisive politics, adding that the political group is not welcome in Kisii County.
Ms Ong'era reiterated that she is focused on politics based on development.
