There is more that needs to be done to address the challenges facing girls among them FGM, lack of access to sanitary towels and early marriages.
Gilgil MP Martha Wangari says despite the efforts made towards curbing this, there is more to be done.
Addressing the media during a function in Bahati on Friday during the World Girl's Day, the vocal legislator revealed that the National Assembly is already working on how to address the challenge of sanitary towels in schools.
“I think we have made some efforts towards the rights of the girl child but there is more to be done as far as FGM , sanitary towels and early marriages is concerned,” said Martha.
She, however, lauded the government for the move taken in addressing the transition rate to secondary schools noting that the girl child's transition is higher.
According to Martha, there has been a challenge on who between the Education and Public Service Ministries should address the issue.
The MP opined that already, the concerned Cabinet Secretaries have been summoned to appear before the National Assembly to address the same.
“We want the two ministries to agree so that our girls don not undergo suffering,” said the Gilgil MP.
